In 1916, a group of 15 families who were immigrants, strangers to the English language and the culture of America, came together and established the St Nicholas parish of Donora, PA. Among the group were those who were born in Russia as well as others who came from the Carpathian Mountains in the Austro- Hungarian Empire.
